With more than four decades in medicine, Kaarlo Alakoski, PA-C brings a depth of clinical experience shaped by international service, rural medicine, emergency care, and a long-standing dedication to the health of the Four Corners community.
Kaarlo’s medical journey began in 1977 with combat medic training in the Swedish Army, where he developed early expertise in emergency and field medicine. He later served with the United Nations, first as a Public Health Officer in Cyprus and then as a combat medic in a UN field hospital in Naqoura, Lebanon — experiences that forged a lifelong commitment to compassionate, capable patient care.
He completed his pre-medical studies at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, before earning his Bachelor of Science as a Physician Assistant from Des Moines University. His early career included orthopedic medicine in Cortez, Colorado, followed by rural emergency medicine in Montana. He later served with the Indian Health Service, providing care to underserved communities.
For more than two decades, Kaarlo was a trusted medical provider in the region, practicing urgent care medicine in Farmington, New Mexico from 1998 through 2025. During this time he cared for thousands of patients and developed a reputation for steady clinical judgment, practical problem-solving, and genuine compassion. In addition, for more than a decade, Kaarlo worked side-by-side with Dr. Michael Rutledge at Rutledge Skin Care, providing a broad range of dermatologic and skin care services to patients throughout the Four Corners community.
Today at SkinsationMD, Kaarlo contributes his extensive medical experience to a physician-led team dedicated to advanced aesthetic medicine, regenerative therapies, and total wellness.
