He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1981 and completed his residency training at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

He was the physician founder and owner of Rutledge Skincare, where he built a trusted reputation for thorough skin examinations, early detection of skin cancers, and thoughtful management of complex dermatologic conditions.
